After WWII Korea was divided between the U.S. and the Soviet Union, because Russia was trying to take over Korea. It was split along the 38th parallel. North Korea was Communist and South Korea was a Republic. On July 25, 1950 North Korean forces came across the 38th parallel creating a surprise attack on South Korea. The Soviet Union supported the North Korean's by giving them technological and strategic support. The U.S. and the United Nations aided the South Korean's.
By September of 1950, the North Koreans pushed the South Koreans to the perimeter of Pusan. The United Nations went into Korea to help protect them. The U.S. troops pushed the North Koreans into Pyongyang. Then China felt threatened and sent 300,000 troops into North Korea. Three major battles of the Korean Conflict were Gojoseon Period, Three Kingdoms period and the North-South States. The Korean War ended in July of 1953 and Korea was divided. Today North Korea is still Communist and South Korea is still a Republic.
